Durka, it turns out that if you put your blurb page, the one that's transcluded on the Competition Hub, on the calendar, then the Competition Hub itself gets put on the calendar.  So, can you make another page to be put on the calendar and fix it?  I added some text to the instructions to tell you what needs to be done, let me know if they're unclear somehow.  Thanks.  --[[User:Lucifer|Lucifer]] 06:27, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

* Nevermind, I did it.  I created a TSTBlurb page, and then transcluded that to Team Sumo Tournament, but for some reason the calendar didn't update.  So I'm going to ignore it for now and hope it fixes itself soon.  :)  --[[User:Lucifer|Lucifer]] 06:34, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

Nice work, Durka: you do a lot of admin in terms of wiki, team-organisation, and player engagement. Thanks.

When I showed my flatmate the game, I realised how large the skill gap was between a noob and regular fortress players. And the regulars don't really know how skillful they are, because they are roughly equals amoungst peers, forgetting the fact they have been playing for years for many of them. It has taken hours for him to just be able to survive, and he still has no idea about attacking of defending.

I believe a similar skills-gap might arise with respect to self-organising. The skills learned by generating a stable tournament (3 years vanhayes reminds us!) start to become invisible. And we start to think that certain things don't require explaining.

With this in mind, please consider your editions of the guidelines, specifically the blurb so that even a noob can get their head around it at a glance, and then they can click on whatever to get a fuller explanation. Your current version is cool, and an update is definitely necessary, and I certainly have little idea on how the thing is run these days. I am simply wary of the word 'obsolete'.

I guess it doesn't really matter, since it is only captains that need to know, so I suspect the alarm bell ringing in my head might need updating too. I suspect if we ever catch a wave of uptake, the entire tournament interface will require a new face for players and captains to make sense of things. It is always wise design ethic to keep things sensible and transparent for noobs.

  • It might also help to enable “Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary” in your Preferences (under “Editing”). Then you get a free preview and an opportunity to give an edit summary :)—Wrtlprnft 03:58, 8 September 2006 (CDT)

format of the guidelines
