Qualifying Blitz Tournament

From Armagetron

5 minute Blitz Tournament on Sunday, March 9th, 19:30 GMT.

Instructions

  1. Join ##acl on the freenode network on irc (that's the network with all the tron channels).
  2. Open the goo.gl link in the channel topic. It leads you to the standings and all matches & (eventually) results.
  3. Play your matches.
    1. For the first round, the matchups will be decided randomly.
    2. For all the remaining rounds, you can challenge whoever is available that you haven't played yet.
    3. Make sure you challenge them using the correct color. If you played the wrong color in a game, it'll have to be replayed to count as valid. The spreadsheet shows exactly which color you should be using in which game.
  4. When all matches are played, keep watching the spreadsheet in detail for at least 20 minutes and be amazed by my splendid work. (Concord and over (and the internet) helped tho)
  5. Now we know who's gonna play in which division for the first season. Yay.

Challenging and reporting results

  1. For the first game, you'll be given an opponent. One of you creates a 5 minute game with 0 increment. (On lichess, select "play with a friend") Then you paste the url to that game along with your opponent's name in the same message, he opens it and the game starts.
  2. For the remaining games, you find an opponent like this:
    1. After you're finished playing, say "ready for next game" once in the chat. Then you wait.
    2. If someone else, who you haven't played yet, said they're ready, you tell them something like "Player 1: let's play".
    3. After telling them "let's play", you check the spreadsheet to see which color to use. Then you create a game and send them the url while mentioning their name in the same message. (This is important because I'm going to check all the games and if there's just a link with no name, it'll be more effort).
    4. It's important that the game is Unrated (Casual), 5 minute time control with 0 increment. Double check before starting the game. If you mess this up everyone will think that you're not so bright, and you don't want that do you?
    5. After the game is finished, copy the url from the address bar (without clicking "replay and analyze" first).
    6. Say in ##acl: "win/draw/loss vs Player 1, http://lichess.org/theactualgamelink"

How to know which color to use when challenging

  1. The fastest way:
    1. Check the spreadsheet. There's a table in the top-right corner.
    2. The white cells are the matches to be played. Ignore the gray cells.
    3. The names on the K:L column are the ones playing white. The first letter of each player are listed on row 19 (the top row), these are playing black. Find where the two players meet at a white cell. For example the cell M20 is Pr3 as white, vs Coco as black.
  2. The slower, but maybe easier, way:
    1. Scroll down and find your match in the list.
